Peter was born in Hague, SK. He was the 8th child of a family of 12 children. In his teens, Pete met Margaret met at the Oak Point Sports Day. They were married for 71 years when Margaret passed away in September of 2022. They spent their early married years working on dairy farms throughout Manitoba. In 1959, they settled near Balmoral and together with their children where they built a successful dairy operation of their own.
Work was hard but they found time for camping, traveling and fishing. The annual Kessler camping weekend, filled with practical jokes, bonfires, food and fun was an event to look forward to with great anticipation. Leading up to this event, Peter would meticulously fit pieces of garden hose inside a copper pipe which he would place in the campfire so the grandchildren could be amused by the colours that were created. He excelled at wood foraging😉. If there was a dead tree he would be sure to find it.
Peter and Margaret travelled extensively in their motorhome, visiting Canada from coast to coast, across Alaska, cruising the Caribbean and exploring many of the US states. In 1997, Peter and Margaret retired and moved from the farm into the town of Stonewall. In their retirement they spent many winters in Harlingen, Texas at the Fun n Sun RV Park where they made numerous friends. They enjoyed playing Mexican Train Dominoes, cards and exploring the surrounding area such as South Padre Island, Reynosa and Matamoros, Mexico. Peter especially enjoyed donut and ice cream day in the park.
He also liked to hunt. November was always a busy month on the farm and family and friends would often come out to Balmoral to hunt for deer. Much of the summer was spent fishing; some of his favorite places were Lake of the Prairies and Anama Bay.
Peter was a big fan of both family and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. His last evening was spent with family at his side and the Grey Cup on the television.
Funeral Service for Peter will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday November 29, 2022 at Green Acres Funeral Home, viewing starting at 1:30 PM. Following the service, Peter will be laid to rest beside his beloved Margaret at Green Acres Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at the Stonewall hospital for their compassionate care and understanding.
