It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Marie-Jeanne Samborski, aged 92 years, on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Actionmarguerite St. Vital.
Marie-Jeanne was born and raised in St. Pierre, Manitoba to Ovide and Albertine Nault. She lived on the family farm until her early twenties, when she married Peter Samborski. They lived a few years in Roseau River and then moved to Winnipeg. They expanded their family and eventually built a family home, on their own, from the ground up. Both were hardworking people and dedicated much of their lives to improving their life and that of their family.
Marie-Jeanne worked for many years at St. Boniface Hospital, where her husband, and eventually all her children, also worked. She first worked in housekeeping, and then moved to the Pharmacy department, where she was known for her organizational skills. Marie was always good with numbers and memorization. In her later years, she took to doing WordSearch puzzles and this carried on in her retired life, even through years of dementia.
Marie-Jeanne was a loving, kind and generous person. She did what she could to provide for her children and it was evident that she loved them very much. When her children were adults, she continued to be involved in their lives, helping them where she could. She spent many years hiding small pockets of money in their homes to cover the costs of items she deemed were hers to cover.
As a grandmother, Marie was amazing. She was known for her ability to put a grandchild to sleep in her arms in no time. She was witty and always had some great, and often times, funny stories to tell about her past. She and Peter built a beautiful cottage at Belair Beach to provide a place for their expanding family to relax. Many wonderful memories were made there for children and grandchildren alike.
Marie-Jeanne was predeceased by her parents Ovide and Albertine Nault, her husband Peter Samborski, her brothers Luc, Levis and Eric, her sister Lina, and numerous in-laws.
She will be deeply missed by her six children and their spouses: John and Terry, Larry and Louise, Olga and Kris, MaryAnn and Werner, Terry and Michèle, and Karen and Gilbert. She also leaves to mourn fifteen grandchildren who loved her very much: Lisa (Mike), Lori (Ryan), David (Carolyn), Cory (Kristen), Jackie (Kurt), Amanda, Bobby (Chanin), Krista (Patrick), Marina (Sean), Matthew (Carleigh), Christian (Mackenzie), Kyle, Melanie, Julien and Riel. She also had 14 great-grandchildren.
She is mourned by two sisters, Georgina and Irene, two brothers Aurèle and Claude, and sister-in-law Florence. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces who loved her dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff at Actionmarguerite, with a special nod to nurse Renée and Dr. Michelle Grzybowski for their compassionate care. Also, thank you to her family doctor, Dr.Chris Fotti, for his care over the years.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10 am at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road. For those who wish, viewing will take place at 9:30 am. Interment will follow immediately following the service. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
