Jack Peters Toews of Steinbach, Manitoba died on January 11th, 2023 with his wife, Mary at his side.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Helena and Gerhardt (George) Toews, his brother Peter and his sister Maria. Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary (Gerbrandt) Toews, son Scott (Kathleen) Toews with grandchildren Marren and Mikhail; daughter Carla (Jason) Chabot with grandchildren Ryder, Jordis, and Maddyn; and daughter Jenna (Henri) Payette with grandchildren Norah and Laine. He is also survived by his sisters Helen (Henry) Kauenhofen and Mariann (Brian Friesen) Stoesz, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In his 72 years, Jack was an athlete, world traveller, businessman, breeder and trainer of Arabian horses, a community leader who helped establish the Mitchell hockey and baseball programs, and a hockey and baseball coach. Jack was many things to many people, but we know him best as a husband, father, and grandfather. We loved this man dearly and we will always miss him.
A service in memory of Jack will be held on Thursday, January 19th at 2:00pm at Neufeld Garage in Randolph, Manitoba. Interment will follow the service at Randolph Cemetery. All are welcome. Those who can attend may dress casually and are encouraged to wear their favourite sports jersey.
The family would like to thank the medical professionals involved in Jack’s care through the decades. Special thanks to the staff at Bethesda Hospital for their compassionate care, Marigold (Mitch) Peters for officiating the service, and Jane Kehler and Denton Keating for their additional support and guidance with funeral arrangements. The family also wishes to acknowledge the love and support of their family and network of special friends during this difficult time.
