Jeremias S. Provido Jr., fondly remembered as “Jerry,” passed away peacefully at home on August 29th, 2022, with beloved wife Cheryl at his bedside at the age of 73.
Jerry left his birthplace of Leganes Iloilo, Philippines in 1972 for Winnipeg Canada -the day before martial law was imposed, with sister Nelda and nephew Neil alongside, and soon after married his wife Cheryl in October of 1973. Jerry was employed as a Machine Operator for most of his occupational life at Canadian Bronze with the remaining years doing odd jobs but primarily caring for his wife and grandchildren.
Jerry embodied a happy go lucky, unselfish, caring and kind soul. His carefree personality was embraced by all those who were fortunate to be in his presence, but especially his children and their closest friends. Jerry enjoyed karaoke, watching NBA, WWE, tennis and relished in the company of family pets. He was blessed to have reveled with long time best friends (Pare’s); Ensot, Roming, Lito (deceased), Eddie (deceased), Alex, Rohel, Rene, Bidoy, Ruben, Remy, Jimmy, Jon, Bebing, Rudy, Moroy, Nic, Sammy, George and many others under the banner of ‘Kitahanon’. This exemplary display of comradery and loyalty he shared with all his friends would become inherent with the next generation that followed.
In 2013, Jerry was gifted a kidney via transplant from his youngest daughter Jerilyn. With his continuing battle with deteriorating health Jerry persevered with his devout faith in God and undying will to overcome. Even in his ailing condition he contracted Covid while in the hospital for an unrelated matter, and nothing short of a miracle -was able to overcome the ravages of covid in his already weakened condition. With the request of family and the supervision of the Palliative/Comfort care program, he was discharged to be at home for what was only to be an abbreviated timeframe of no more than a month. However, through the grace of God and the assistance of many medical professionals, caregivers, and family; he surpassed all expectations and instead was blessed with over a year and half at home with wife and family at side.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents Adelaida and Jeremias Sr. and sisters Nelda, Editha, Marrietta, Ninfa and loyal K9 companion Charlie. He is survived by his two sisters Aurora and Emma (Ricardo) Abono and Brother Ildefonso. His wife of almost 49 years Cheryl and children; Wendell (Melanie), Sherrisse (Jeremy) and Jerilyn (Hector). His grandchildren; Khyla (Deion), Enya, Emma Leigh Faith, Lucas and Ruby. Nephews and nieces and their children; Katrina -Julian and his father Val, Neil -children Cash, Casey, Paige their mother Shirley and Marnie. Outside Canada- Dexter (Genora), Nadine Dale, Ann (Ken) Keann, Kurt, Khloe and nephews Jeff and Micheal.
A heart felt thank you for the timeless work and effort by the WRHA Palliative Care Program Team, HSC Renal outpatient program and all the Homecare workers and nurses who tended to Jerry’s care at home. May God bless you all in your endearing care and compassion for those that seek your help. A special thank you to Mike De la Cruz (DLO) for the unmeasurable support and to all those who have offered prayers and condolences during this challenging time.
