With her children by her side, Emily Kent passed away peacefully on August 16, 2015 in Steinbach, Manitoba. Emily is survived by her husband, Dan, her sons Doug (Val) and Graham (Vanessa), and her daughter, Katie (Dwain) Anderson, her four grandchildren Blake, Brenden, Jazlynn and Mason and two brothers-in-law, Stephen Kent and Chris Kent.
Emily was first and foremost a very loving and caring mother, not only to her children and her siblings but also to those who were entrusted in her care. She enjoyed having family gatherings which she and Dan hosted on many occasions, always celebrating special events giving reason for family and friends to gather. She was lovingly referred to as Em (as In "M" for mother) by her siblings and nephews and nieces.
Among her many friends, near and far, Emily will always be remembered for telling stories of her, and her family's, many escapades and adventures. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. Her smile was always heartfelt.
Aged 16, Emily left her home in Fairford to seek employment. She strived to accomplish a higher education. In time she attained her Counselling degree from the University of Manitoba. This degree along with her loving and kind demeanour was instrumental in the various positions she held as a Social worker for the SouthEast Division where she worked with troubled children, youth and adults. She was also the director of Pinaymootang Daycare for a number of years up until her illness.
She was predeceased by both her parents Caroline (1995) and David Anderson (1997), as well as Her brother, Joseph IronEagle(2015)
Among those left to mourn are aunt Bertha Sanderson and Emily's siblings and (their spouses): Allan (Lorraine), Tom(Josephine), Clarence(Kathy), Mark, Shirley (Joseph) Martial, David, Vince (Fern) Henderson , Henry (Deedra), Colleen (Lester) Woodhouse and longtime friend Lorraine Gildewich. There are also many nephews and nieces, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention, but just as important.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the support of all those who came to the hospital and to the staff of Bethesda Regional Health Center for their compassion. Thank you to all for your prayers and consolation to the family, and to the Chief and Council of Pinaymootang.
