Josephine (Josie) Perez Galvez was born in Stockton, California, on January 10, 1940. She was called to her heavenly home on December 8, 2023, to be reunited with her daughter Hortencia and parents, Pedro and Chrispina Perez, along with her siblings, Peter, Charolet, Helen, Tommy, Lola, Mary, and Agnes.
Josie was a strong, faithful, committed Catholic who left behind her brother Max and children, Oscar, his wife Rosa, Dr. Sylvia, her husband Herbert, David and his wife Lisa, and Rachael, along with 20 grandkids, 35 great-grandkids and 3 great-great-grandkids.
Josie completed her education in Stockton, California, graduated from Edison High School, and furthered her education in the 1970s at the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) in Southeastern San Diego, where she learned basic construction.
She and her husband, Oscar Galvez, moved to San Diego, California, in 1967 and began working for Donald C. Harder in electronics technology and for Honeywell in the early 1970s. In the mid-70s, Josie and her five children moved to a beautiful community called Emerald Hills, where she began working for Present John Adam Manor as a maintenance worker. She always held a part-time job cleaning people’s homes and commercial buildings.
In 2000, Josie left her full-time job and began working full-time at Sullivan’s Group Home, a non-profit organization, as a childcare worker to mentor foster girls. After ten years of service, she retired and started caring for her dogs, cats, and birds.
Josie also volunteered daily for many years at her Church, Holy Spirit, by packing and giving away food alongside her close friends Lind and Ruth. She was committed to servicing others in her church and community.
Family was everything to Joise, and giving and helping others in need were her passions. She helped everyone who asked for help and went out of her way to give to her family members and others.
Josie loved to listen and dance to Mexican music and enjoyed Mariachis! She loved cooking Mexican food and making fresh flour tortillas because she knew everyone would stand in line to get a hot tortilla off the grill. She loved to dress up, wear jewelry, and get her hair and fingernails done. Looking good was a priority for Josie!
