LYON Jr., William D. “Bill” age 89 passed away June 25, 2012 in Nashville, TN. Born December 10, 1922 in Bluff City, TN to William D. Lyon Sr. and Effie Cawood Lyon. Preceded in death by parents, siblings, son, William D. Lyon III. Survived by wife of 69 years, Shirley Ann Hewitt Lyon; sons, John (Connie) Lyon of New Orleans, La, George (Jane) Lyon of Nashville, Charles (Dianna) Lyon of Nashville and Spence (Kathy) Lyon of Nashville; 9 grandchildren and 15 great – grandchildren. Bill attended Carson -Newman College where he met his wife Shirley. He served his country during World War II as a 1st Lieutenant, US Army. Upon completion of his military service Bill and Shirley moved to Nashville. Bill was employed as salesman until he began his career with Eastern Airlines in 1954. He was a ticket agent for Eastern at the Nashville Airport until his retirement in 1979 after 25 years of service. In retirement he pursued his love of Bluegrass fiddling entering various bluegrass contests and as a member of “The Old Spikers” bluegrass band performed at many local events. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, traveling and watching his grandchildren grow up. Bill Lyon was a true southern gentleman known for his kind words, sweet smile, fiddle playing and quiet wisdom. Bill was known to all his friends as “Fiddlin’ Bill”. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, June 29 at 11 am with grandson Dr. Jeremy Lyon officiating. Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Visitation with family will be Thursday, June 28th 5-8 pm and one hour prior to service on Friday.
