Gentry was a veteran of World War II, having served for three years in the Army Air Corps as a bomber pilot, flying B-24s and B-29s. He was active in the Middle Tennessee World War II Bomber Group. Following his military service, he graduated from MTSU and received his MS degree in Chemistry from Vanderbilt Graduate School. He retired from DuPont in 1985, having been employed as a Chemist at the Old Hickory plant for more than 32 years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 2005 and a former member of First Baptist Church Nashville. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Gentry was predeceased by his wife, Sara Ann Floyd Brandon, brothers George of Nashville, James of Murfreesboro and William of Clarksville and sister Margreete Hays of Murfreesboro.
Gentry is survived by his daughters Suzanne Brandon of Nashville, TN, Connie Brandon Woodham (Andrew) of Columbia, SC; grandson Drew Woodham (Christine) of Columbia, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation Saturday September 24, 2016 from Ten O’clock until Eleven O’clock in the morning at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Graveside service immediately following at Eleven O’clock in the morning at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
