I realize this is so late, but I was shocked and sad to hear of Sara’s passing. I grew up with Sara in Metuchen, NJ and attended St. Francis together. Our parents were close friends, as well as our siblings and her Mom was my Godmother. I cherish those days growing up with the Hayes and playing kick the can in the street. When we moved to Cincinnati and the Hayes to Knoxville we got a chance to visit them on their wonderful home on the river. A wonderful family. My condolences to the family.

I’m Sara’s sister and house mate of 26 years.  I’m sure I would love each of you as much as Sara does. God bless you. 

Sara was my “boss” at St. Gertrude School in Cincinnati.  As her secretary, I tried my best to be professional but she would always crack me up and we would laugh until we cried.  She decided the teachers would have a game night in the convent parlor one Friday night.  Probably against all rules, we trooped into the convent with our food and “beverages” and had a blast!  Rest In Peace in the Lord!   Well done, dear friend!

My prayers and deepest sympathy are with the family and all who knew and loved this amazing woman! Sara was the principal at St. Gertrude School in Cincinnati, OH when I taught second grade.  She was truly loved and respected by her staff, parents,  and  students.  Her sense of humor, kindness,  compassion, and joy brightened our days! It was an honor to know her and to work for and with her!  I thank God for  her influence on the many lives she touched during her time in Cincinnati and throughout her life.  She was truly a gift and I am blessed to have known her.  She brought true joy to the lives of so many and was truly loved! May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed Rest In Peace.  💕🙏

Whatever I might say about Ms. Hayes would surely pale in comparison to the wonderful woman she was and the warm light she brought to those around her. I was lucky to have Ms. Hayes as a teacher in both junior high and high school. I cannot imagine my school years without her. I will perhaps remember most fondly the times I spent with her setting up for the all school masses my senior year. As we counted out hosts, dressed the alter, and walked incense around the gym we also talked. Those conversations were both grounding and uplifting for me. It is an amazing thing as a confused teen to have an adult who genuinely is interested in what you have to say. Someone that will listen to you and gently guide you without judgement or harsh criticism. Ms. Hayes left a lasting mark in my heart and mind. I think of her often and have tried to emulate her kindness and compassion in my own life. I read a quote once that said "A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others." Ms. Hayes was a candle to many; giving her everything to her students, family, friends, and community.  She may be gone from our sight, but she will never be forgotten. Her lessons and love will live on in each of us forever.

I had the honor to know Sara when she was in the convent with the Nashville Dominicans.  She was my principal at St. Gertrude School in Cincinnati, Ohio in the late 80's/early 90's.  She was a WONDERFUL woman and I am so glad to have been a member of her faculty.  Sara had such a bright smile and the children all loved her!!  She was so  kind and understanding as I started my new role as a working Mom under her watch.  I am a better teacher because of  her!  Please accept my prayers and sympathy.

Ms. Hayes was more than just an educator. She was a mentor, a parent, an advocate. She always kept in mind that I loved art and knew that I was at my happiest in the studio. If I wasn’t able to squeeze a class into my schedule because of it filling up, she would find a way.

I always saw her with a smile on her face. She had room in her heart for every single person and I don’t think she was capable of ever forgetting a face. Everyone deserves to have one teacher in their life that is just like her

My friendship with Sara begin our sophomore year of high school and continued until she left for the convent after graduation. We had many good times during those years with sleepovers, concerts, girls basketball and general shenanigans in class. Her sense of humor was well evident as well has her work ethic and drive to help others especially children. I remember she volunteered at Columbus Home and I was so impressed she did. Regrettably, many years passed with our lives taking different directions so I was thrilled when we renewed our friendship through Facebook.  I enjoyed her beautiful artwork she posted and we shared our love of dogs especially the rescues.  

Hayes family, I'm heartbroken for your loss and please accept my deepest sympathies.


Such wonderful memories of Sara.  She left her footprint at Father Ryan and it is a better place because of her.  Prayers are with her family.


God bless her and strengthen her family through this hard time.  She was a source of wisdom and comfort throughout my 4 kids tenure at Father Ryan; and her sweet empathy and kindness helped us through my oldest son's battle and death by cancer.  I consider her one of the finest of people.  Sorry for us that she is no longer here to lend us her strength; but glad for her that she is no longer struggling~~she is with the Lord she loves and with others who love her as much as we do.  We will see her again.

Ms. Hayes was one of the finest teachers I've had the privilege to learn from. She taught me both in the classroom and how to be the best person I could be. I am truly grateful for all of the lessons she gave me and am deeply saddened by her passing.

I taught with Sara at Holy Rosary Academy. Although we taught at opposite grade levels I was always in awe of and admired her wonderful sense of humor, teaching skills and compassion towards her students and peers. She was one of the most genuine persons I have ever known. Rest In Peace now, Sara...I will miss you! 





Ms. Hayes was my English 101 teacher at Volunteer State Community College in 1997.  I was on FMLA due to my 2 year old daughter having open heart surgery. She was so caring and considerate and allowed me to finish the semester by mailing me the assignments. I am so grateful that she allowed me to complete my coursework  at home and submit my assignments via USPS.  She was a blessing to my family in many ways and I believe she is one of the angels watching over her many students, friends and family members.

Ms. Hayes was easily the greatest teacher and mentor I’ve ever had the privilege to know. She watched out for me when I needed it, and guided me through a lot of tough times. She was always in her students’ corners. She also held the most graceful balance between spirituality and humanity. I can only hope to one day be even half the person she was for all of us.
