In Loving Memory of Melba Rose Tidwell, a longtime resident of Middle Tennessee and a dedicated Christian passed away at the age of 85, surrounded by her family at her home in Traditions Assisted Living of Brentwood on October 12, 2023. She left this world to join her heavenly Father, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love and a number of remarkable achievements.
Rose was born June 14, 1938 in White Bluff, Tennessee and from an early age, her life was marked by an extraordinary passion for sports. She was an accomplished athlete, making a name for herself in the realms of basketball, softball and golf. Her athletic prowess was a source of inspiration and pride for those who knew her.
In her adult life, Rose served as a receptionist, business manager and accountant for a number of successful companies, including a long career at State Industries, known today as A.O. Smith Water Heating.
In addition to her achievements in sports, Rose was an active member in her church. When she moved to her assisted living facility in Brentwood, she continued to practice her faith by listening to Pastor Shockley’s sermons remotely from the comfort of her lazy boy recliner. An avid follower of Dr. Charles Stanley, she seldom missed his weekly-televised sermon. Rose exemplified the principals of kindness, love and unwavering faith. Her influence extended far beyond the court and field, touching the lives of many.
A loving and devoted Mother, Rose leaves behind her two children Pamela Lynn (Jeff) Cammuse and Steven Anderson (Michael) Tidwell; two grandchildren, Jordan (Kenzie) Cammuse and Jessica (Travis) Julian; four great grandchildren, Callie and Nora Cammuse and Averie and Davis Julian and her sister, Jenny Lynn McKnight. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren referred to her as “Gran”.
Her family is pleased to host a visitation and catered reception on Monday, October 16, 2023, beginning at 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Nashville and Ryman Suites of Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee.
On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, a Celebration of Life Service will take place at the Pleasant View First Baptist Church located at 2555 Highway 49 East in Pleasant View, Tennessee. She will lie in state at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Brad Shockley will officiate with special music performed by Mickey Dyce.
On Wednesday, October 18, Ms. Tidwell will lie in state at the Taylor Funeral Home located at 214 North Main Street, Dickson, Tennessee from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a private graveside service at Union Cemetery in Dickson, Tennessee.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either the Pleasant View First Baptist Church or Alive Hospice of Nashville, both of which reflect Rose’s compassionate and giving spirit.
The family would also like to extend their profound gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of Traditions Assisted Living, the many nurses and care providers of Alive Hospice, Dr. Byron Haitas and so many others. We are extraordinarily grateful for the love and compassionate service you provided our wonderful Mother.
Rose Tidwell’s warm heart, dedication to her family, remarkable athletic prowess, and unwavering faith in God will be forever remembered and cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. She may be gone, but her legacy will endure as a testament to the enduring power of love, faith and sportsmanship.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love” - 1 Corinthians 13:13.
