A native of Nolensville, Tennessee, R L Johnson was born on December 2, 1934. At the tender age of 84, he went home to glory on May 25, 2019. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maggie “Ms. Sis” Johnson, father, Isaiah Dillard, and two sisters, Robbie Nevils and Marjorie Morton. R. L. (initials only) was a devoted father, family man, and friend. He was best known for his sense of humor, incredible work ethic, and his culinary skills. After serving his country in the U.S. Armed Forces, R.L. devoted his life to serving others. His million dollar smile was contagious to anyone in his presence.
Possessing a ‘Green Thumb,’ he grew amazing vegetables in his garden, which he gladly shared with family and friends. When others would marvel at his garden, he would point to his head and announce that he had created a secret formula (don’t tell anyone but it was just daily hard work and much nurturing).
Firmly grounded in the principles of Christianity, he accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ, as his Savior. He was a member at Lake Providence Baptist Church, where he faithfully attended early service.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Eric (Marcia) of Charlottesville, VA, siblings: Mattie (Malcolm) of Franklin, TN, Carrie Mae Patterson (J.C.) of Nolensville, TN, William Morton (Larissa) of Nashville, TN, James Morton (Penny) of Nashville, TN, Cliff Morton of Nolensville, TN, Houston Morton of Nolensville, TN, Howard Morton of Nolensville, TN, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, he leaves two devoted friends, John P. Brown, Jr., Mary Rivers, and two devoted cousins: Robert Dalton and Mary Ruth Johnson, who provided support until the end. Throughout his life, he met many people who greatly affected his life in various ways through their kindness, wisdom, care and concern. Two such people are Ruby Mai Morton and Virginia Brown. R. L. Johnson was an extraordinary man whose legacy will continue to live through our lives.
