Nancy Sue Hutto passed away peacefully at age 84 on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at her home in Clarksville, Tennessee. Surrounded by her loved ones and pets, she passed from this life in the arms of her adoring daughters and grandchildren. Before moving to Clarksville, Nancy lived much of her life in Nashville, Tennessee, and was born in Direct, Texas, on August 17, 1939, to the late Psyche Perkins and Elvis T. Moore. She is preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Terrell Don Hutto, her eldest daughter Jennifer Marie Hutto Uphoff, and her siblings Darlene Julian, Jerry Moore, Helen Miller, and Betty Bolton.
Nancy is survived by her daughters Robyn Suzanne Hutto Miller and Shelley Anne Hutto Armstrong; grandchildren Miranda Hagre, Mollie Uphoff, Jacob Uphoff, Joshua (Jessica) Uphoff, Madison Uphoff, Mallory Uphoff, Joseph Uphoff, Jonah Uphoff, Amber (Matt) Morris, Candace (Eric) Northrop, Sarah Bolton, Mason Neblett, and Katie Armstrong; great grandchildren Caroline Uphoff-Tate, Arden Hagre, twins Lynkin and Lochlyn Uphoff, Evelyn Uphoff, Mila Morris, Asher Morris, and Atlas Northrop; and many other extended family and loved ones.
Nancy married her true love, Terrell Don Hutto, in June of 1960, and she had a fulfilling career as an English and French teacher for over 22 years. Her biggest passion in life was her family. Nancy was a fun-loving mother who took an active role in her daughters’ lives and upbringing. She supported her husband in his dreams and ambitions, and with her help, Don climbed the ladder in the field of corrections all the way to co-founding Corrections Corporation of America (now CoreCivic) in Nashville, Tennessee. She enjoyed many adventures with Don as they traveled the world building a CCA presence in places such as England, France, and Australia.
Nancy loved taking care of everyone around her and made it her mission in life to be the best grandmother in the world, and her many grandchildren can attest to her overwhelming success in that endeavor. Her happy place was her summer home on Lake Opinicon in Ontario, Canada, where she enjoyed feeding her chipmunks and tempting the local birds to her front lawn. She loved walking down to the dock with grandchildren in tow to help them feed the fish in the lake and preparing an abundance of home-cooked meals for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her Lake Opinicon friends, hosting gatherings and parties that were always the highlight of the summer season.
Nancy, who spent her entire life caring for others, was doted on by her children and grandchildren, all of whom adored her company. Her passing is an immense and tragic loss to her family, who is comforted by the fact that Nancy, heartbroken at the loss of her beloved husband, is reunited with him in God’s arms at last.
