Matthew Rowland, 22, died suddenly on Saturday, June 16, 2018 after suffering an epileptic seizure. A fun-loving young man with an impish grin and a “Dennis the Menace” personality, Matthew never met a stranger and made this world a more positive place to be.
Matthew was always full of curiosity about the world and his place in it. Matthew served on the Audio-Visual Ministry Team at West End United Methodist Church for many years, and was also an avid participant in the college ministry program and Habitat for Humanity team builds. He worked at Hillwood Country Club, where his infectious personality and “can-do” attitude was the core of his work ethic. His eternal catch-phrase in every situation and every place was “not a problem,” and he worked hard to help others achieve their goals. Matthew was attending Nashville State, where he was working toward his engineering certification, a perfect fit for his delight in learning how things worked.
He is predeceased by his brother, Patrick Rowland and his grandfather O. Eugene Coleman. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Marc and Ruth Ann Rowland, brother and sister-in-law Will and Sarah Rowland, brother Drew Rowland, grandparents Ruth O. Coleman, Ben Rowland, and Donna and Hank Wagner, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at West End United Methodist Church (2200 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN) on Friday, June 22 at 2 p.m., with visitation from 12-2 p.m. A private interment will be held prior to the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Matthew’s memory to either the Audio-Visual Ministry or College Ministry funds at West End United Methodist Church.
