Mary R. Green

GREEN, Mary Regan –Passed away on October 1, 2012. Born May 12, 1918. Mary was the loving daughter of Mamie Mooney and James Patrick Regan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, Robert Allen Green. Mary lived almost her entire life in Nashville. She attended St. Bernard’s Academy where she received an award for perfect attendance. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Vanderbilt University in 1940 with a degree in mathematics. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and was elected Homecoming Queen. Mary enjoyed life-long friendships through her bridge clubs, supper clubs, garden clubs, Ladies of Charity and Fannie Battle Day Home. She volunteered at St. Thomas Hospital Auxiliary. Mary was a long-time member of Centennial Club. She was an original member of St. Henry Catholic Church and a member of Cathedral of the Incarnation. Survived by her four children, Mary Ann (Lewis) Harris of Nashville; Ellen (Edmond) Tipton of Falls Church, Virginia; James R. (Alice) Green of Louisville, Tennessee and Roberta (Bill) Wheeler of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grandchildren Holly Ann Harris, Laurie Harris (Michael) Cian, Marty Harris, Kelly Harris (Brad) Telfeyan, Karen Tipton (Richard) Fontaine, Robert Wheeler, Peter Wheeler, Matthew Wheeler, Thomas Wheeler, Katie Wheeler and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her first cousin Ellen (Thomas) Kerrigan of Indianapolis, Indiana. Mary will be remembered for her strong faith and as a devoted wife and mother. The family is forever thankful and deeply grateful for the care, love, and devotion Mary received from her gifted caregivers Kathy Webb, Penny Andrews, Diane West, Jerilyn Cain, Victoria Gunter, Sandy Redferrin and Valerie Graves. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 9:30 am until 11 am at St. Henry Catholic Church and a service will immediately follow at 11 am. There will be a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies of Charity or Fannie Battle Day Home for Children. May perpetual Light shine upon Mary and may her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
