Marie Sullins Murphree died peacefully on July 19, 2022 at the age of 83. She is survived by her loving children, son, John Williamson Murphree, III, daughters, Janice Kathryn Murphree, Lynn Marie Murphree (August) Rocco, three grandsons, August William Rocco, III, Andrew Murphree Rocco, and Nicholas Cavanaugh Rocco, great-grandson, Grant Trader Rocco, brother in law, David Ballew, sister in law Lorna Sullins. She is preceded in death by husband, John Williamson Murphree, Jr., daughter Frances Elizabeth Murphree, parents, Oval Braxton Sullins and Frances Whitehead Sullins, brothers, James Phillip Sullins and Oval Braxton Sullins, Jr., sister, Linda Ann Sullins Ballew.
Marie was born in Nashville on February 17, 1939. She graduated from St. Bernard Academy, Class of 1957, and was elected Father Ryan High School homecoming queen in her senior year. Marie also attended Belmont School for Teachers. She married her husband, Johnny, in 1960 and together they joined St. Henry Catholic Church in 1964. Marie was active in St. Henry Ministries for 58 years including St. Henry School projects where her children were educated, leadership positions in the Parish Bereavement Committees, Pastoral Dinner Teams, and Bible Study Groups. Her friendships within in the Nashville Catholic Community were lifelong.
Marie’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Henry Church, Tuesday, July 26 at 10:00 am with a visitation preceding at 9:00 am. A private burial will take place on a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Nashville Rescue Mission.
