He departed this life on August 1, 2023. Jay attended both Holy Rosary Academy and Father Ryan High School. He was a member of the I.B.E.W and Knights of Columbus.
Jay loved watching sports, playing card games and since retirement, attempting to teach himself how to play the electric guitar.
Jay had the biggest heart for people and never met a stranger. He could and would talk to everybody! He possessed an innate skill to get people to talk to him with ease.
His love of people was best expressed in his affection and care for his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents John (Jack) F. Dowd Jr. and Virginia A. (Cunningham) Dowd as well as his brother-in-law Cary G Hayes.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Dowd, daughter, Ember Nicole Chastain, grandchildren, Joseph Adin Carlos Castillo-Dowd, Amillia Nicole Chastain-Dowd, and Amythist Rayne Chastain, sisters, Brenda Hayes and Janet Crabtree (Scott), nephews, Jason Keith and Daniel Willhelm, nieces, Katie Hayes Randall and Megan Hayes.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday from 11-1 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 1 PM at Mt. Olivet funeral Home.
