Janie Ray Nipper Butler, age 75 of Nashville, TN passed away on January 30, 2024. She was born in Nashville on May 23, 1948 to the late Mildred Pendergrass and Walter Ray Nipper, Jr. Along with her parents, Mrs. Bulter is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Robert (Bob) Abernathy Butler, Sr.; mother-in-law Alma Nelson Butler and father-in-Law John Dennis Butler; sisters-in-law Dorothy Butler Greer, Frances Butler Shannon, and Jane Butler Bowser; and brothers-in-law John David Greer, Sr., John Milton Butler, William Pillar Butler, and Glenn Alvin Bowser.
She is survived by her son Robert Abernathy Butler, Jr. and daughter-in-law Amy Trimble Butler; daughter Amy Butler LaFrenz and son-in-law Matthew Morgan LaFrenz; grandchildren Robert Abernathy Butler, III, Thomas Scott Butler, Taylor Grace Butler, Abby Dukes Butler, Jacob Morgan LaFrenz, and Brooke Butler LaFrenz; sister Faye Nipper Ligon; sisters-in-law Betty Sue Butler and Faye Story Butler; and brother-in-law Bob Ligon.
Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Antioch High School and Martin Junior College. She loved God and was a long time member of Crievewood Baptist Church where she served in the Youth Group, attended WMU, and participated in numerous Sunday school classes and Bible studies.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. “Mimi” adored her six grandchildren and loved supporting them in their sports and activities as well as dancing and singing with them to music especially Elvis and The Beatles. Mrs. Butler enjoyed boating and skiing on Percy Priest Lake with her family. She loved swimming with her friends and spending time at the beach in Destin, FL.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service with family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Crievewood Baptist Church, 480 Hogan Road, Nashville, TN 37220.
