Jane Rice Hardy

Jane was the daughter of Ernest and Golda (Eastham) Rice.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard C. Hardy; sister, Ethel Kent; brother, Harry Rice; and her parents.

She is survived by sons, Barry (Debbie) and Keith Hardy; foster daughter, Debbie Dunn; grandsons, Randall, David (Ragan), and Jacob Hardy; foster granddaughter, Chrisanna Greeley; and foster great granddaughter, Nora Jane Greeley.

Mr. and Mrs. Hardy were married in 1950 and shortly afterward moved to Maine where they worked over the next 20 years as missionaries to establish the Church of Christ in Augusta and Kittery, Maine. Mrs. Hardy worked at David Lipscomb College over 35 years in various capacities including Mail Room Supervisor, Secretary to the Vice President, Assistant Director of Admissions and Administrative Assistant in the Computer Center.

Mrs. Hardy was known for her hospitality, encouraging spirit, and love for the Lord. She tirelessly encouraged many people by sending cards monthly until she was 92 years old. She and her husband published a small book entitled, “Some Interesting Facts about the Bible” that was printed in English and Spanish; and has been used in many states as well as several Hispanic countries to spread the message of God.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and residents at The Bridge at Hickory Woods, Good Samaritan Home Care, and Gentiva Hospice for the care and support we have had over the last six weeks of Mrs. Hardy’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Debbie Dunn and Allene Johnson Scholarship Fund at David Lipscomb University which helps students who have been in foster care with tuition cost.

Visitation will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon until five on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at eleven o’ clock in the morning on Monday, May 18, 2015 with a visitation one hour prior at Granny White Pike Church of Christ, 3805 Granny White Pike Nashville, TN 37204.
