He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty Ann Pilkinton, sister Emma Harrison, brothers Leamon, Eugene (Gene), Marion, and Roy Pilkinton, great-granddaughter Margaret Ann Pilkinton, and his parents the Rev. Horace and Daisy Pilkinton. He is survived by his children Jim (Connie) Pilkinton and Claudia (John) Enberg, along with six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and brother Dr. Robert (Billie) Pilkinton. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Shelton graduated from North High School in 1947. He retired from the Nashville Gas Company in 1994 after 47 years of service. He retired from the TN National Guard after serving over 20 years. Shelton was a member of Vine Street Christian Church for 73 years.
The family would like to extend a special thank you and deep gratitude to Johhnie Chavours for providing loving care and attention to Shelton during the last few months and to Heart and Soul Hospice for their professional care.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be missed by many.
A gathering of family & friends for James will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
A gathering of family & friends will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Vine Street Christian Church, 4101 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205 with a celebration of life service to follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Thomas Kleinert officiating.
A graveside service will occur Friday, September 29, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
