Jimmy passed away peacefully and February 28, 2011 while surrounded by his family. He was born December 9, 1931 in Nashville to the late Myrtle and Harry Evans Allen. He was also preceded in death his brothers, Harry Evans Allen, Jr. and Jack Whitlow; his four legged friends, Blake and Sugar. He is survived by his devoted wife, Connie Hasslock Allen; his children, Terri (Charlie) Smyth, Catherine Evans Hammers, Janet (Michael) Dyer and James Tillman Allen; grandchildren, Tara Skojec, Tori Smyth, Kelsi Hammers, Courtni Hammers, Natalie Allen and Caroline Belle Dyer; mother-in-law, Janet Moss Hasslock; nephew, Harry Evans Allen; faithful companion, Honey. Jimmy attended Peabody Demonstration School, the University of Tennessee and later the Warton School at the Univerity of Pennsylvania for a special seminar on Chevrolet Metro Market Communications. Jimmy was the happiest when surrounded by his family with a dog at his side or behind the wheel of a car. He loved car racing and drove competitively for many years. Jimmy was the former owner of Nashville Motor Raceway and ended his career as Vice President and General Manager of Capitol Cherolet Honda. He gave generously of his time to the community and served on the board of the Metro Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Board. Jimmy was a member of Hillwood Country Club and a former member of Cedar Creek Yacht Club. Active pallbearers are John Baker, Andrew Woodfin Miller, Jr., Tracy Lewis Miller, Jim Napolitano, Jesse Nash and Chuck Vaughn. Honoray pallbearers are Tom Allen, Thomas Bean, Bobby Davenport, Rod Davenport, Tony DeMateo, William Edwards, Sr., S. Ralph Gordon, Johnny Haley, Andrew Woodfin Miller, Dwain Taylor, Willie Thomas, Jimmy Vaughn, Marion Hamilton Wallace III and all former employees of Capitol Chevrolet. The family would like to thank Dr. David Heusinkveld, Dr. Joe Mulherin, Dr. Stan Snyder, Tamera Pace and all the nurses in critical care at St. Thomas Hospital for their love and care. In lieu of flowers the family request gifts in Jimmy’s memory to the Nashville Humane Association or the James H. Allen memorial (Run-a- kid-to-camp) at Camp Seafarer, 2744 Seafarer Rd. Arapahoe, NC 28510. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at WOODLAWN.
