Survived by wife, Wilma Beatrice "Sweet Bea" Brakefield Adams; son, Homer James Adams, Jr., and daughter, Sarah Adams Johnson, and their families.
Homer was a committed lay leader in the local, district, and general levels of the Church of the Nazarene. He was also a lifelong learner and educator, having earned a bachelor's degree from Trevecca College (now Trevecca Nazarene University), master's and doctoral degrees from Peabody College of Vanderbilt.
Adams served as president at Trevecca from 1979-1991, a period marked by great growth and financial depth. His love of history served him well in the classroom and in his many writings, which included over 20 books. He was also a proud WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Serving Christ and the Church were among Adams' greatest pursuits and deepest joys. He leaves behind a loving family and untold numbers of friends who are grateful for his wonderful legacy of faithfulness.
