Mrs. Helen E. Currie was born October 11, 1938 to the late Rev. R.L. and Mary Evans in Nashville, TN. She passed away on August 27, 2018. She was preceded in death by parents and siblings, Lucille (Warren) Dean, Roosevelt (Juanita) Evans, Charlesetta (William) Mills.
Helen graduated from Pearl High school in 1957 and she received her B.S. degree from Lane College in Jackson, TN in 1961, where she was a majorette.
Helen was a retired Metro School teacher and was a recipient of the Local Metro Teacher of the Year award in 1991. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, and Choir Number Two at Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was a lifelong and active member for more than 70 years, where her late father was the Pastor.
After retirement, Helen spent over 18 years working in Estate sales with Berenice Denton Estate Sales.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James R. Currie, children, Marcus A. Currie and LaTrice C. Tucker and grandson Alfie "A.J." Tucker, II; siblings, Mary Jean (Billy) Hancock, Rev. Wallace Evans, Roger (Gloria) Evans, Rufus (Yvonne) Evans, Paul (Willia) Evans, and Brother and Sister in laws, Rudolph Currie, Juanita Currie, Vernell C. Neely, Daisy (Ardell) Somerville, Martin (Miriam) Currie, and Rev. Lajoy Currie and host of nieces, nephews and dear friends, whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home.
Visitation will also be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at from eleven o'clock in the morning until twelve o'clock in afternoon with funeral service to follow at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2214 12th Ave. S.
