Gerald Wash McClellan, age 88, from Hermitage, TN passed away at Summit Hospital on September 30, 2019. Gerald was born August 29, 1931 in Lancaster, Smith County, TN and grew up on his parents’ farm. He graduated from Smith County High School in 1950 and soon was drafted into the Army. He served in the Korean War from Sept. 12, 1952 to Aug. 27, 1954; followed by six years in the Reserves. Afterwards, he travelled and worked various jobs until meeting and marrying his first wife, Dot. They had and raised three children together. He worked at a printing company located in Nashville for many years. Gerald enjoyed making pencil drawings, painting pictures, boating, camping, playing poker, and even square dancing during this time period of his life.
Years later, on January 19, 1985, Gerald married Carolyn Ann Lunsford and remained happily married for over 34 years; until his death. The two of them worked hard, enjoyed some travelling, and loved their dogs. Gerald was a member of the DAV, the VFW and American Legion Post 88. One of his favorite things to do in later life was to eat his version of country cooking. Basically anything cooked with hog jowl, bacon grease, or fried!
Gerald is survived by his devoted wife Carolyn McClellan, his children Debbie Martin (Jim) of Lebanon, Cathy Cheney (Tommy) of Manchester, Dan McClellan of Nashville, six grandsons (John and Andy Henry; as well as Tom, Taylor, Trevor, and Torrey Cheney), a number of great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and another one on their way!

Celebration of Life Service at one o’clock, Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall, with interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
