George Alton Dempsey, age 84, passed away on November 19, 2010. He was preceded in death by wife of 60 years Marvoline Dempsey. Survived by daughter, Shirley Greene; son, Gary (Mary Kay) Dempsey; grandchildren Bobby & Angie Greene, Alison (Brad) Bynum, Kyle & Reagan Dempsey; great grandchildren Kelsey & Franklin Greene, Norah & Charlotte Bynum. Funeral services will be at 11:30 am Monday at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with Barry Ellis and Roger Shelton officiating with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. He was an active member of Haywood Hills Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon He served in the US Navy in the European Theater in the Sea Bees Corps. He returned after the war to become a mason and was involved in the construction of prominent Nashville and surrounding area buildings. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the charity of your choice are encouraged.
