Gary A Stewart

He graduated with a B.A. from the University of Mississippi. He spent his graduate program at the University of Madrid, Spain on a Fulbright Fellowship. He completed his M.A. and PhD Program at Vanderbilt University. He served three years in the U.S. Army with a final rank of SP5. He was an instructor at the U.S. Army Adjutant General School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana.

He retired July 31, 2007, from the Nashville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta in Nashville after 33 years as manager of the Public Information Department with responsibilities for community outreach, volunteer programs, tours, the bank’s cafeteria, the bank’s speakers’ bureau program and the banks extended outreach program with Joelton Elementary School. He also taught a course on the Federal Reserve System for the American Institute of Banking for 4 years.

His volunteered as a tutor for the Nashville Adult Literacy Council; member of Hands On Nashville for 10 years, with one year on the Board; project coordinator for making CARES bags at Nashville CARES; nominated by Hands On Nashville for the Mary Catherine Strobel Awards; recognized as a Tennessee Volunteer Hero by WSMV television and served as a member of the Strengthening Youth and Families Council for United Way.

He was active in the local Toastmasters Club which included: Charter President of the Committed Communicators Toastmasters Club; Toastmasters Area and Division Governor; Educational Presenter at the 1998 Region V Toastmasters Conference and speaker at the 1999 Toastmasters International Convention in Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tullos Stewart and sister Shirley Norwood Baker. He is survived by his husband, Jim Robert and bonus children-Mark G. (Tracy Bean) Robert of Wildwood, MO, Julie (Don) Wilsey of Florida, Matthew (Molly) Robert of Urbana, IL; three grandchildren-Drake (Clarissa) Robert, Drew Robert and Danielle Robert; one great grandchild-Eve Elizabeth, all of Bloomington, IL.

Friends and relatives attended a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 9th on the Mezzanine at the Stahlman Building in Nashville from 1 PM to 4 PM. Memorials can be made to Moves and Grooves, Inc. (movesandgrooves.org).
