Eugene Anthony Piontek of Nashville, TN passed away on August 28 at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. A proud son of Lackawanna, NY, he graduated from the University of Detroit with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He later earned his M.B.A. from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He served for two years in Vietnam, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant in the Army.
Relocating to Rochester, NY after his discharge, he began his career with Bausch & Lomb. In 1980, he moved his family to Nashville where he joined IKG Industries.
His career achievements were many, but his greatest source of pride was always his family. In May, he celebrated 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife Susan, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Gene never met a stranger. He laughed easily, loudly and often. His cotton sweater wardrobe was as colorful as his personality. He loved a good intellectual debate, enjoyed gardening, and restored vintage cars. He loved a project and could fix anything. He volunteered, he donated blood and he traveled the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Walter S. Piontek, Sr. He is survived by his devoted wife Susan, daughter Pamela (Michael) Sheridan, son John (Candice) Piontek, grandchildren Jack Sheridan, Caroline (Larkin) Dobson, Olivia Piontek, Cecilia Piontek and his brother Walter (Nancy) Piontek.
A special thanks to Preferred Care for the professionalism and compassion that they showed Gene in his final months.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Gene's life on Monday, September 9 at St. Henry Catholic Church, 6401 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205. Visitation begins at 12pm with Funeral Mass to follow at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
