Mrs. Elizabeth Reed Raney age 92 of Brentwood, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Survived by a loving son, Steve T. Raney of Brentwood. Preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Bailey Terrell Raney (B.T.) She was an active member of Brentwood Hills Church of Christ. In 1939 Elizabeth was Miss Bedford Country, and she helped to open the first Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration in Shelbyville. She never missed a year at the celebration until the last few years due only to declining health. She was baptized on May 4, 1946 at Central Church of Christ, Nashville. Elizabeth served as a primary school teacher in several of the churches across Tennessee. She served to help elderly people her entire life and in 1982 was selected as the Unsung Hero of Tennessee by the Al Mehah Temple for her work with the elderly. B.T. once wrote of his wife, “I appreciate her love for others, especially the elderly, that she has generously given time to over her entire life.” When the family lived in Knoxville during the 1950’s, Elizabeth became interested in helping an elderly woman with food, clothing and cost for the only stove the woman had. Deciding that the woman should have TV since she had no money for movies, Elizabeth organized a drive that collected enough Green Stamps from neighbors and friends at church to get the TV. Elizabeth was also very active in Garden Clubs in cities in which they lived. Graveside and interment services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015, at one o’clock in the afternoon, Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from eleven in the morning until the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Church of Christ Disaster Relief Funds, 410 Allied Drive, Nashville, TN. Visit the online obituary: www.woodlawn-roesch-pattonfh.com.
