Elizabeth Ann Butler

She was preceded by her parents, Leslie and Lela (Irwin) Strong and her sisters, Margaret Helton (John), Rachael Alotis (Jon), Betty Shepherd (Jim) and her younger brother, Tommy Strong.

Elizabeth is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, James Butler. She is also survived by her three children; Judy Cline (Jim), Dennis (Angela) and Danny (Lynn).

Judy and Jimmy have two sons, Wes (Molly) (children: Lincoln and Audrey) and Andy (Sara Beth) (children Anne Clare, Ella and Judah).

Dennis and Angela gave Elizabeth three grandchildren, Brittany Elliot (children Dalton, Brandon and Hank), Amanda Choinacki (son David) and Kaitlyn Thornhill. Danny and Lynn have a daughter and a son, Bridgett and Zach.

In addition, she is survived by her sister in law, Shirley Strong, Tommy’s wife and James’ sisters Juanita Walden, Doris Walden, Yvonne Ellis and James’ sister in law, Jewel Butler. Aunt Elizabeth also loved dearly each and every one of her nieces and nephews and their children

Elizabeth was born in Nashville on North 9th Street. She grew up in Nashville except for a short period of time when her family moved to Montgomery, Alabama. Her second home was Lockeland Baptist Church and she had been a member there since she was six years old.

It was at Lockeland Baptist Church where a young WW2 Veteran saw a beautiful 18 year old Elizabeth Strong on the back row. James says she has been the love of his life every minute since that day.

At 19, Elizabeth moved to Kodiak, Alaska with James for two years. That is where Judy was born.

She was a Sunday School teacher who shared the love of Jesus to children for decades with her best friend, Elizabeth Baggett.

Elizabeth is known by all as loving and caring and to this day most would say her most striking feature is her smile. When she smiled, she smiled from her heart.

What she would want you to know about her is that she loved Jesus with all her heart and there was nothing more important to her than her family and her friends. To know her is a blessing.
