Elaine Chittick Evans died on September 21, 2014. She was the daughter of Col. Martin B. Chittick and Margaret Greenslate Chittick. She was born on August 2, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is survived by her sons, Winston (Kaye) of Nashville and Trevor (Stefanee) of Newport, Vermont; by her grandchildren, Laine (Chicago) and Giles (United States Air Force); and by Lynne Evans (Franklin).
She attended Northwestern University and then Ward-Belmont. She met her husband, J. Clarence Evans, in 1942. They married on September 2, 1942 in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. and were happily married for 66 years before Clarence passed away in 2009.
Elaine was a member of St. George’s Church for 35 years before transferring to First Presbyterian Church to be with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Centennial Club, Four Seasons Garden Club, Alferic’s Readers, and the Military Officers Wives Association. She also served on the Board of the Sam Davis Memorial Association. At age 40, she took the AOPA flying course and learned to fly a small airplane.
Visitation will be at the family home on Tyne Blvd from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens following the service. Contributions may be made to the Nashville Humane Society or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are being handled by Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home (615-327-1111)
