Dorothy Morris Green, aged 96, died peacefully on October 17, 2018 at home in The Waterford of Smyrna. Dot was born December 17, 1921, in Ashland City, Tennessee, the daughter of Charlie Britten Morris and Salina Young Morris
Dot was the last of eight children born to Charlie and Salina. Her siblings, all deceased, were Bradford, Herbert, Ella, Lula, Isabell, Minnie, and Jerome. Dot is survived by her son, John Michael Green (Denelle); grandson Dr. John Morris Green (Deanna), granddaughter Kimberly Diane Rodgers; and great-grandchildren Elly Nicole Johnson, Eric Hemingway Johnson, Everett Alexander Johnson, and Samuel John Rodgers.
Dot graduated from Central High School in Ashland City, Tennessee. She was chosen as Miss Cheatham County in 1939, winning the grand prize of $5 dollars. After graduation she attended Watkins Business School and worked at S.H. Kress & Company in Nashville, Tennessee
In 1942, she met the love of her life, John Morton Green, at the soda fountain in Jones Drug Store, in Nashville, Tennessee. On May 10, 1943, while Johnny was on a weekend pass from military training at Camp McClelland, they were married in Anniston, Alabama.
For almost sixty years, Dot and Johnny were active members of Jackson Park Church of Christ in the Inglewood suburb of Nashville. Dot, a licensed cosmetologist, for many years volunteered by styling the hair of many of the residents of the Jackson Park Christian Home, as well as other less-mobile ladies in the congregation. Late in life, she became a member of the Rural Hill Church of Christ in Antioch, Tennessee.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, October 20, at 11:30 am in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee, with burial following the service in the Fountain Gardens of Woodlawn Memorial Park. Jim Olive, minister of the Jackson Park Church, and Dan Dozier, minister of the Rural Hill Church will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, October 19, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, and from 10:30 – 11:00 am on Saturday morning before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Rural Hill Church of Christ, 564 Bell Road, Antioch, Tennessee 37013.
