Dorothy Kathleen Powell Donnelly, born October 24, 1927, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents Buell and Ermal Powell, her husband Charles Donnelly, her daughter Janice Donnelly Alexander; her siblings Juanita Newkirk, Nora Powell, John Powell, Margaret Beekman, Joe Powell and Dora Rivers. Dottie’s brother, Wray Powell, also joined her in heaven on October 24, 2020.
She is survived by her siblings Frank Powell, Ruth Edwards and Helen Mendenhall; her daughter Lisa (Garry) O’Connor, her grandson Brian Moore, her granddaughters Melanie (Lee) Scott and Brooke (Matt) Nicholson; her great grandchildren Reagan & Reilly Moore, Riley O’Connor, Laney & Kellen Scott, Charlie & Donnelly Nicholson. Also survived by son-in law, Harold Alexander, nephew Brandon (Mary Kay) Edwards, niece Carol Hipsher, great niece and nephew Jenny and Chase (Hannah) Hipsher along with a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored.
Dorothy was a long-time parishioner of St. Henry Church, a member of the Ladies of Charity, a Board Member of Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home, she worked as a bookkeeper for Sperry’s restaurant for over 10 years. Caring for her family and her home were her greatest joys. Dottie was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress, and an amazing cook. Her talents were freely shared with friends and family. Her love and charity knew no bounds. To know this gentle soul was to love her. She leaves a great legacy of love behind for all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Donnelly’s nephews and nieces will serve as pall bearers and her caregivers are named as honorary pall bearers: Valerie Armstrong, Kay Boykin, Mary Kay Buckner, Freda Fry, Charline Greer, Sharika Maclin, Christina Mendez, Gracie Minton, Tiffany Rucker, and Yolanda Simmons. These women and others held her up and made her life much better during her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. They became part of our family and we can never thank them enough.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2020 from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at Marshall Donnelly Combs funeral home(201 25th Ave. North) followed by a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery (1001 Lebanon Rd.) at 1:00 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Henry Catholic Church (6401 Harding Place) with COVIDprecautions in place. In lieu of flowers donations in Dottie’s memory can be made to www.NurturetheNext.org (taking care of mommas and babies throughout Tennessee) or to your favorite charity.
