She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Swindell Pistole and her father, Alva Eugene (Gene) Pistole.
She is survived by her loving family, including husband, Steve Bivens, of Cleveland, TN; her sister Anita (Bob) McCawley of Cookeville, TN; her sons Mike (Brandy) Bivens and Brian (Clark) Bivens and her prized grandsons John, Henry, and Steele, all of Nashville, many very special cousins and numerous friends.
Born in White County, Tennessee, she attended White County High School and graduated from Tennessee Tech University. She went on to earn her Masters degree in Counseling from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Beloved by her students and fellow faculty, she was a career educator and counselor at Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tennessee for more than thirty years. She was a member and former President of the Laureate Psi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 3 in her hometown of Sparta, TN at Pistole Baptist Church from 3-4:30 p.m. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, April 4th at the Museum Center at Five Points in Cleveland, TN from 1-3 p.m. with a short service at 1 p.m. followed by receiving friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for the Dinah Pistole Bivens Memorial Scholarship Fund at Tennessee Tech Foundation or to the Pistole Memorial Cemetery Fund in Sparta, TN be sent to P.O. Box 40424, Nashville, TN 37204.
