Passed away peacefully June, 1, 2014 after a courageous fight against cancer. She was born February 12, 1949 to William Percy and Mary Hailey Warner, Jr. Her parents preceded her in death as did her brother James Warner. Diane Grew up in Donelson, attending Holy Rosary elementary and then graduated from Two Rivers High School. After raising two boys and living in Little Rock, AR, and St. Charles, MO, she returned to Nashville, went back to college and received her bachelor’s degree in 1993 at the age of 44. She found her mission in her work at United Cerebral Palsy of Middle TN as Director of Development, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of their programs. She was passionate about helping those with all disabilities and made a difference in many lives.
She is survived by her husband William D. Dietrich, her son William Jefferson Woody (Denise) and granddaughters, Emily and Ellie Woody all of Atlanta, her son Jason Warner Woody of Nashville, and their father Fred Woody of Atlanta, by her sister-in-law Willene Warner (Harry Ilgner) of Nashville, by step-daughter, Cathy D’Antonio (Marc) and step-grandchildren Kate and Jack D’Antonio all of Columbus, GA, and by step-daughter Kristin Dietrich of Nashville.
Diane was happiest when in the backyard digging in the dirt and if you were fortunate to view her backyard in bloom, you knew she had a special touch. She loved the beach, any beach, the Predators, March Madness, and bargain hunting with the emphasis on the hunt. And soon the pain and tears will gently give way to smiles and memories of Diane as we remember her smile, her grace, her compassion. And we shall feel joy.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and the staff at Alive Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Mount Olivet Funeral Home, Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 4-7pm. A private family funeral service and interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of Middle Tennessee.
