Mr McCurley was an amazing teacher who I will never forget, he was the only teacher who I felt really cared about us, about all of us. He always could tell when I was sad, and he always went out of his way to make sure that I was okay. We miss you Mr McCflurry!

when we went to holiday world it was funny because we convinced him to get on a roller coaster and he started saying stuff and it was funny

So sorry Scott lost his battle against this wicked disease. I enjoyed teaching with him on the 7th grade team at TMMS. True to his nature,  he brought joy, laughter,  kindness, and sass to our work environment. I am so glad I got to know him as a coworker and friend and will remember him foundly. His students loved him and often asked if they could get permission to  go to his class to see him.  Rest easy Mr. McCurley. Because I knew him, I have been changed for the better!

It was a privilege to work with Scott at Thurgood Marshall Middle School.   "Mr. McCurley" was an outstanding teacher for his students  and a supportive member of his grade-level team and of  our faculty.  There is no such thing as a "typical" classroom.  A teacher never knows what he will encounter until that first day of school. But Scott was one of those teachers who could calmly and professionally work with students no matter what they might need. Dependability and a terrific sense of humor created a safe and welcoming classroom environment, as well as a high degree of camaraderie with his fellow teachers. 
I will always remember Scott with his huge smile! I knew when I needed a pick-me-up I could leave the office and head down the sixth grade hallway to visit a classroom where students were engaged with a thoughtful, caring educator. I will miss you, Mr. McCurley. 
Due to recent knee surgery, I won't be able to attend the services, but I will be with the Marshall MS and McCurley families in my heart.

This photo takes me back to 1992, when we were touring Greece with the Rutherford County Square Dancers, proudly representing the USA. It was an incredible experience filled with unforgettable performances, meeting other dance troupes, and building friendships with dancers and musicians from around the world. Scott was at the heart of those moments—always so friendly, full of life, and a true friend and mentor. His warmth and genuine spirit brought so much joy to everyone around him, making those memories even more special. It was a time that exemplified the kind of person Scott was: welcoming, inspiring, and an unwavering support to those fortunate enough to know him.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Scott McCurley, a truly wonderful person and extraordinary friend who played an essential role in my life during my late teenage years. When we danced together as part of the Rutherford County square dancers, his encouragement, kindness, and unwavering support helped me grow into who I am today. I will forever cherish the countless times we spent just hanging out and talking, as well as the beautiful memories of our trips to Greece, Holland, Idaho, and Utah and the joy of reconnecting during my recent visits to Tennessee.

Scott was not only an amazing friend to me, but he also touched the lives of countless others. As a teacher, he was beloved by thousands of his students, known for his warmth, humor, and dedication. He had a unique ability to make those around him feel seen, supported, and valued. His legacy as a mentor and guide will continue to live on through all the lives he influenced with his gentle spirit and generous heart.

To his family: please know that my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Scott was a bright light to many, and his laughter and compassion will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you as you navigate this profound loss. May the memories of his kindness and joy bring you comfort in the days ahead.

May he rest in peace. He was the best, coolest, Chillest teacher ever. It still feels like he’s alive. It was just last year he was my first block teacher.

Thank you for being one of the best teachers my son could have. You will be missed. Prayers sent your family’s way. Get you some rest.

Mr.McCurly was truly one of the best teachers! He brought me smile,  joy and just all of the happy emotions .  He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and he will be forever in my heart.

He was a great man a very great man. I could just tell. As the times I walk by his class he seemed that him and his class was having a blast. Although didn’t have any classes with him is just those time I went to his class he was caring about his class and supportive to all his classes. He was the Best teacher even i can say that.  I wish that you know that he’s fine now as he’s up there know with god. May he’s soul rest in peace.

I really shocked from my heart!and we missed you sir. We pray to God for his soul rests in pease.. We wish his family immense strength and Pease in life. We have lost one of the best teacher we had ever met!!

We had so much cousin fun growing up. I'll always remember the good, fun times.

Scott and I attended Riverdale High School at the same time.  He was two years ahead of me , and I knew who he was through his cousin, Andrea McCurley, who was in my class (1986).  I met Scott at my first job (Red Food), and we worked together for approximately two years.  We had the same humor (as dry as it was), and we laughed at the silliest things!  I had the honor of getting to know Scott and Adam.  We would watch the TN Titans win and lose, and give our two cents worth of how they should/could have made this play to win the game.  He loved being an educator and teaching was an excellent choice for him (especially on SNOW DAYS)!  I am saddened he is no longer with us and he will be missed immensely.  Our time on earth is short; however, Scott made his time count by loving everyone unconditionally!  He touched countless souls who will go into the world a better person.  Rest in Peace my friend.  We will miss you!!

I am so sorry to hear of your passing, you were my old coworker and my son's teacher, I will never forget you. May your soul have eternal rest.

Mr Mccurly has been a great presence in my life, he cared about my education and my future which pushed me to create a great future for myself. His actions will always be remembered in my heart when I ask myself why I try to be the best person I can. His ability to make anything funny was admirable, I wish I had the confidence to do things that might make me look silly just to get a good laugh like he did. Mr Mccurly was always caring and he valued every student he had, and he made every student who left his class welcome to return. I will miss him greatly as he had a great impact on my life

I send my deepest sympathy to all the McCurley family. I enjoyed knowing  their supportive  parents and working with several of the children of the family. Scott was my student at Riverdale. Later, he participated in our folk dance troupe in Rutherford Co. and assisted in the formation of our International Folkfest in 1982 (now in our 43rd year).  He worked for many years to keep our festival vigorous and stable.  One valued contribution was the establishment of our website. He traveled to many sites in the world to perform with our troupe and always added humor.  It was also my pleasure to receive hospitality from Scott and his life partner, Adam, in their beautiful home.  I am most proud of the excellent teacher he became. His thousands of students profited by the way he diligently and consistently prepared for them and helped them along the way. He was well-liked and had a quiet way of getting the job done.  He will certainly be missed by many.
