Connie was preceded in death by her parents William Thomas and Thelma Stidham Bowers, and her sister, Nancy Bowers Wood. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Bowers Smith, daughters Elizabeth Forehand, Carolyn (Wes) Shofner, and by her son Whitley B. Forehand. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Kathleen Bowers Shofner, and Rachel Roberson Shofner, and seven grandsons, William Shepherd Shofner, D. Chase McNeilly, Cyril C. Forehand, Brandon Whitley Forehand, Spencer Stidham Forehand, Edward Eldar Forehand and Christopher V. Forehand.
An alumna of Hillsboro High School, Class of 52, and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where she was a member of the Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity, she was honored as the most outstanding freshman woman by both Chi Omega and the University. She also received the Mortar Board Award as the most outstanding junior woman.
Connie was involved in many civic and church activities throughout her life including her children’s school activities, Suburbia Garden Club, Centennial Club, and Stephens Valley Church. For many years she served as an advisor to Vanderbilt Chi Omega chapter and chaired several committees for Chi Omega Alumnae. Connie’s greatest joys came from time spent with her family and numerous friends. She loved people and easily established friendships with all ages and maintained strong ties with people from high school, college, church, and the workplace. She was very proud of being one of the first employees of Carter-Haston Real Estate Services, Inc. and saw it grow into a nationally recognized apartment investment and management company under her watch as Office Manager and trusted advisor.
A funeral will be held in January 2024, details of which will be announced shortly. Services will be conducted by Rev. Jim Bachmann. Memorial contributions may be made to Stephens Valley Church, 6000 Pasquo Road, Nashville, TN 37221.
