Caroline Hilton Woodard passed away on December 7, 2019 after a lengthy battle with leukemia. She was 78 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Clark Hilton and Cecelia Candee Hilton, and by husbands Thomas Woodard, James C. Ward Jr. and Edwin Perkins. She is survived by her children, Julia Hilton Calkins and Braxton Paul Perkins, and his wife Mary Schneider Perkins; six grandchildren Benjamin Braxton Calkins, Andrew Ward Calkins, Peter Hilton Calkins, Josephine Hilton Perkins, Paige Elizabeth Perkins, and Scott Schneider Perkins; her brother Robert Candee Hilton; her sister Martha Hilton Nolen (Norman); her nieces and nephews Betsy Lasley (Jon), Rob Hilton (Chris), Will Nolen (Laura), Jim Nolen (Rebecca) and David Nolen (Brittney); her stepchildren Tom Woodard (Ronnie), John Woodard (Erika), Matt Woodard (Rebekah), Susan Ward, Jimmy Ward (Corrine), and John Ward (Carrie); and by her beloved Woodard and Ward step-grandchildren and extended families.
Carol grew up in Nashville and graduated from the Harpeth Hall School, where she later returned as a teacher of mathematics. Carol majored in mathematics for her undergraduate degree from Duke University and a Master’s degree from Virginia Tech. In addition to teaching, Carol worked in investment banking for J.C. Bradford & Co. Carol was a longtime member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, the Centennial Club, and the Belle Meade Country Club. Following in the footsteps of her parents, she had a long involvement with the Salvation Army, including serving on the Women’s Auxillary Board. She enjoyed the outdoors, playing bridge and cheering for her favorite sports teams. Carol cared deeply about her Faith and her family and friends, who enriched her life with kindness, love and laughter. The family is grateful for the care provided by the staff at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and the Woodcrest at Blakeford.Honorary pallbearers are her many loved and dear friends.
A funeral service for Carol will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on 4715 Harding Road in Nashville on Thursday December 12th at 12:00pm, preceded by a visitation at St George’s Hampton Hall at 11:00am and followed by burial at the Historic Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
