Bobbie Gene Null, age 81 of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. He was born in Kennett, Missouri to the late Will C. Null and Carrie Kent Null on June 11, 1936. Bobbie joined the U.S. Army in 1953 at the age of 17 to take care of his widowed mother and 4 sisters, who were struggling to keep the family farm going. By the time that he retired as a Sergeant Major in 1984, he had completed multiple tours in Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Germany, Okinawa, and multiple stateside assignments. He was decorated and 100% disabled, but was not one to tell others why. Subsequently, Bobbie served as an U.S. Postal Worker, earning a pension before finally relaxing enough to travel and enjoy his retirement near rural Springfield, TN. As a soft-spoken, thoughtful, and strong man, Bobbie never hesitated to give anyone anything that they needed. His caring advice will be what is most missed.
Along with his parents, his is preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Carmen Null. Survivors include current wife of 18 years, Doris A. Null; children, Suzanne Miller, James Miller, Betty Miller; step-children, Kenneth (Barbara) Harris, Tamera (Bobby) Clements; and multiple grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 2:00pm in Mount Olivet Cemetery. A celebration of Bobbie’s life will be held at his home after the service.
