TANNER, Anne Anderson- Age 104, passed away on March 13, 2013. Mrs. Tanner was born November 21st 1908 in Columbus, GA to Emma Carden and Jeremiah Anderson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Tanner who was an Army veteran of WWI; son, William “Bill” Tanner and two younger sisters and three younger brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Tanner; sister-in-law, Margaret Tanner; two cousins, many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. Anne earned her Registered Nursing degree at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL and worked for many years as a private duty nurse in West Palm Beach, FL. Anne was a loving-caring daughter, wife, mother, and friend. She brightened the lives of those who met her with a warm smile, friendly personality, and fun loving spirit. She loved flowers and enjoyed working in the yard. Anne maintained a large Victory Garden during WWII. Being an extremely independent woman, she traveled alone in the 1930’s to Cuba. Later, she sailed up the Inland Waterway from Miami to Bangor, Maine.Anne and Maynard were Charter members of Belle Meade United Methodist Church. Through the years, they helped with many church activities and projects. In honor of her life and commitment to her patients, a memorial scholarship fund has been set up in her name. Gifts may be made to Aquinas College. A funeral service is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, March 18th at Belle Meade United Methodist Church with visitation one our prior with Rev. Tom Gildemeister officiating . Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery in Lawrenceville, GA, Tuesday, March 19th at 2:00 p.m.
