Wadlington, Anna Gunn Vantrease – Passed November 18, 2018, born March 29, 1928. She was the daughter of Nelle Gunn and Herman Vantrease. Her husband, William B. Wadlington, MD, her parents and her son William Brown Wadlington, Jr. precede her in death. She is survived by children, Amy Wadlington (Robert) Bayles , Van Russell (Shannon) Wadlington, John Scott Wadlington, and Jeffrey Deen Wadlington, grandchildren Mallory (Victor) Mallin , Kelly Bayles, Colson Bayles, Mazi Wadlington, Brett Wadlington, Tyler Wadlington, and Anna Wadlington and great-grandson Jed Mallin.
After graduating from Hillsboro High School, Mrs. Wadlington attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, LA before entering Vanderbilt University in her junior year. While there, she was president of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and voted “Sweetheart of Sigma Chi”.
Mrs. Wadlington was a member of West End United Methodist Church where she had taught church school and served on the Administrative Board, the Centennial Club of which she served as president, Davidson County Medical Auxilliary of which she served as president, Vanderbilt Aid of which she served as president, Women of the Church at Andrew Price Methodist Church of which she served as president, and the Ladies Hermitage Association of which she served as Regent. She was formerly a member of the boards of Girl Scouts, Cheekwood, Senior Citizens, Florence Crittenden Services and Family and Children’s Services. She enjoyed her family, cooking, flowers, visiting “shut-ins”, playing bridge and tennis, teaching adults to read, and tutoring at Edgehill Methodist Church.
Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday 10 AM at West End United Methodist Church with visitation to follow for 1 hour after the service.
