Alice Cecilia Glinane Glassford, age 92, died peacefully and was reunited with the Lord on September 17, 2022. Alice Glinane was born March 9, 1930, in Hollis, New York. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles James Glinane and Cecilia Grant Glinane; her brother, Robert Glinane; sisters, Blanche Glinane Caufield and Joan Glinane Hylind McQuire. Alice was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph Thomas Glassford and children; Donna Glassford (James Sullivan, M.D.); Ralph Mark Glassford (Sandra) ; Beth Ann Glassford; and Grant Charles Glassford (Mary Catherine); Grandchildren; Kelly Marie Bubis (Brandon); Mary Alice Werchloluk (Eric); William Matthew Bright; Megan Elizabeth Heuer (Nick); Clayton Thomas Weber; Claire Marie Glassford; Charles Thomas Glassford; and five great-grandchildren.
Alice and Ralph, both native New Yorkers, were married in 1954, thus starting life’s great adventure together which brought them to Cincinnati, Ohio; Lexington, Kentucky; and Nashville, Tennessee, their home for the past 48 years.
A fiercely devoted Mother and life-long Catholic, Alice avowed she was proudest of her four children whom she described as leaders. Her long-time passions were, first and foremost, her Faith, (member of St. Henry Parish) and family, followed by her many dogs, reading, education, photography, travel and the seashore. Some of her fondest memories were from Bonita Springs, Florida, wintering with family and friends from Nashville and Lexington. Interested in the arts and gardening, Alice was a long-time member and volunteer at Cheekwood Estate and Gardens, the Centennial Club, the Herb Society. She was a founding member of the All Season’s Garden Club serving as president in 1996, and with her Husband, a long-time member of Belle Meade Country Club.
She will be greatly missed by her family. She will be remembered for her intellect, style, poise, and wit.
Alice’s family gratefully acknowledges and appreciates the loving care she received from the caregivers at Brookdale Cumberland the last six years, and Alive Hospice. The compassion demonstrated by those who cared for gave Alice great comfort as she was reunited with her Lord. A special thank you to Richard Garman, MD, her physician of many years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to Alive Hospice, Cheekwood Estate and Gardens, Nashville Humane Association, or any charity of your choice.
Visitation will be at St. Henry Catholic Church, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. followed immediately by a Memorial Mass at 1:00 p.m.
