Born in Indianapolis on February 5, 1943, the daughter to the late Harold and Flora (Muffler) Hotchkiss. Shirley passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer at the age of 81.
She married John D. Stewart on December 18, 1962 and raised two children. Throughout her life she held many different jobs including Deluxe check printing, cashier for Eisner Foods, bus driver for Wayne Township Schools; communications for Winona and Wishard Memorial Hospitals and 22 years as a postal carrier and clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. She also once owned a gift basket and floral design business, The Bear Rose.
She loved visiting with her grandchildren; playing cards and board games with her great-grandchildren; and casino trips with her friends. She had a creative mind with many artistic hobbies and had a deep passion for helping animals. There were countless fury family members over her lifetime.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert (Bobby) and Richard (Dick) Hotchkiss; grandsons, Chad and Shane Stewart; mother-in-law, Helen Stewart and husband John.
Survivors include her son John L. Stewart of Indianapolis; daughter and son-in-law Pam and Dan Raisor of Nashville, IN.; grandsons Gavin (Angie) Chambers, Chase Chambers, Evan (Erica) Raisor; granddaughters Kara Stewart and Krystal Raisor; great-grandchildren Tank, Tytan, Taizen, Justus, Kiana, Emalee, Elysia, and Eoghan along with numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration-Of-Life Memorial at a later date where her ashes will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nashville; announcement will be forthcoming in the spring.
