Ora Arto Smith, Jr.

Ora Arto Smith, Jr., 71, of Nashville died Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington. He was born October 24, 1948 in Columbus to Ora A. Smith and Helen White Smith. He was retired form Cummins Engine INC. On December 22, 1968 he married Nancy Ferree and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, Ora Arto Smith III and his wife Erin of Statesboro, Georgia; two grandsons, Harrison and Nolan Smith; two sisters, Geneva (husband Mickey) Dinsmore of Nashville and Kathy (husband Robert) Hollis of Columbus; four brothers in law, C. Wayne Ferree, Bradley Ferree, Gary Ferree and Kenneth Ferree; many many well-loved nieces and nephews; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard L. Smith; and two sisters, Betty McMasters and Judith Boroughs.

Ora was a long time member of North Salem United Methodist Church where he served as Vice Chair of the Board and he and Nancy were co-chairs of the food pantry. He served as an Electronics Technician at Cummins Engine for 33 years and was a Viet Nam ere Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a dearly loved uncle by his large family, he was described as a man of his word, he had a great sense of humor, and would go out of his way to help someone. After his retirement, Ora’s veracious thirst for knowledge led him to read 5-7 books a week.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 10:30 AM in North Salem United Methodist Church, 7718 State Road 46 East, Nashville, with Stewart Ball, M.S. officiating. Burial will follow in David Cemetery where Military Honors will be given by the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends may gather on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 State Road 135 North, Nashville.
