Doris C (Harlow, Rupley, Swift) Toye June 4,1934-November 1,2022 Doris passed away peacefully on Tuesday after suffering from Alzheimers for the last several years. She was born in Kokomo, Indiana to Lester and Mildred Harlow. She graduated from Kokomo High School and attended Indiana University. It was there she met Richard Rupley. They were married and she began her life as a USAF military wife. Together they were blessed with three children John, Susan and James. After they divorced, Doris moved to Nashville, Indiana to be close to her family. She worked for Student Legal Services at I.U., as a court reporter for Judge Sam Rosen, Brown County Circuit Court and as a jail matron while her husband, David Swift, served as Sheriff of Brown County. She was active with the Democratic party. After David’s death, she moved back to Kokomo and reconnected with high school friend Kennison Toye. The two were married and divided their time between Indiana and Florida. Doris was a wonderful woman who had a kind, loving heart and a beautiful smile. She played classical piano and loved flowers, especially lilacs and roses. Doris is survived by her daughter Susan Niehans (John) of Nashville, IN, her son James Rupley of Kentucky, her grandchildren Kyle Rupley (Darren Wirth) of Colorado, Shaina Niehans (Ryan Aylward) of McKinleyville, CA, Max (Angelica) Niehans of Indianapolis, IN, Sydney Rupley and Reese Rupley of Bloomington, IN, Christian Sulsona Rupley of Colorado,and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Joe (Linda) Harlow of North Carolina, her sister-in-law Maryellen Harlow of Kokomo, IN and nieces Melinda Showalter, Liz Harper and Amanda Harvan. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gerry Harlow, her three husbands and her son John M Rupley. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 18 at 4:30 p.m. at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home; 1682 St. Rd. 135 North; Nashville.
