She was born at Hale Hospital, Haverhill, MA on Christmas day 1920. She was the daughter of Mable and Arthur Grayson Cronk, Sr.
She lived her early life in Swampscott, MA, and graduated from Swampscott High School. She then attended Salem, MA School of Nursing where she graduated as an RN. World War II was beginning at that time, and she felt a “calling to serve”. She then joined the U.S Navy, and was inducted in the spring of 1941. Her first tour of duty was in Maine at Quoddy Village. From there, she transferred to Tennessee where she was in charge of the operating rooms, where soldiers were transferred from the front lines for surgery. Three months after being in Tennessee, she met the love of her life, Daniel H. Andernacht, and they were married 3 months later. Muriel and Dan moved to Chicago where they lived for several years, and then they moved to Plaistow, NH. When they retired, they wintered in North Port, FL and spent summers in Kingston, NH. In 2014, Muriel moved back to NH permanently to live out the rest of her life at Riverwoods in Exeter, NH.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in 1999, her parents, Arthur and Mable, her sister Helen Cronk, her brother, Arthur G. Cronk Jr. of Lynn, MA, and her sister Lois (Cronk) Swenson of Venice Fl.
She is survived by her sister, Judy (Cronk) Smith and her husband Larry of Kingston NH. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Muriel’s Life will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:00 at the Main Street Congregational Church, UCC, 145 Main St, Amesbury MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Main Street Congregational Church in Amesbury, MA, or the Church on the Plains in Kingston, NH.
