Mary Sotire Zis, 93, of Westford, MA, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022. Born on March 25, 1929 in Stamford, CT. She was the daughter of the late William and Frances Sotire who migrated from Mitilini, Greece in 1928.
Mary grew up in Stamford, CT and graduated from Stamford High School. Mary worked at Yale & Towne manufacturing in Stamford before she married her loving husband of 50 years Peter Zis in 1949. During the early years in Connecticut, Mary and Peter enjoyed dining, dancing, going to NYC, or off Broadway shows at the Oakdale theater.
In 1963, Mary and Peter moved to Westford where Peter owned and operated the Center Haven Restaurant in Bedford from 1963 to 1986. During those years, Mary assisted with book keeping, menus, ordering supplies, and decorating. Together they ran a very successful business. Mary was a member of the Tadmuck Woman’s Club of Westford, and the Alpine Lanes bowling league of Chelmsford. She looked forward to her weekly trips to the local beauty salon where she made many of friends including longtime friend “Ginny” Doucette.
Saturday nights were reserved for Mary and Peter at many of the local restaurants throughout the region. They enjoyed long Sunday drives, if time allowed. Mary would keep “her list” handy with plenty of chores for “her boys”. Mary was an avid fan of her soap operas for over 50 years. For many years, she published her annual Christmas newsletter for family and friends with highlights of family events.
Mary is survived by her sons Peter Zis and his life partner Carolen Orndorff; Steven Zis and his wife Beth; grandchildren Natasha Marie Brown, Rhonda Andrews; and seven great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Peter Zis; sister Irene Caputo; and brother Peter Sotire.
