Brentwood, New Hampshire -- Gwendolyn N. Jensen died October 31, 2022, following a brief illness. Gwen, as she liked to be called, was born in Boston, MA the daughter of Jennie (Mann) Sweetser and Harold C. Sweetser.
Gwen graduated from the Greater Boston Academy in 1952 and shortly thereafter married her sweetheart Alfred B. Jensen of Malden, MA. In the years that followed they moved to California then back to the east coast, settling in Brentwood, NH where they raised their three children.
Gwen was an active member of the community, attending Brentwood Baptist Church and Fremont Fellowship in Christ. She was theatrical and acted with the Brentwood and Kingston Players. Gwen loved to sing and participated in her church choirs, and in her youth sang with the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston and in professional musical productions in California. She worked at the Rockingham County Nursing Home as a nursing aide, then at the Rockingham County Sheriff’s office as an emergency dispatcher retiring in 1989 after more than 20 years of service.
In 2004 Gwen moved to Florida where she spent her years soaking up the sunshine. There she happily hosted friends during winter months at her home in Bradenton.
Then in 2018 Gwen returned to her beloved Brentwood to live at the Ernest Barka Assisted Living facility. She joyfully reacquainted herself with friends she had not seen for years and rejoined the First Baptist Church of Brentwood. But perhaps most of all she enjoyed the company of her family including son Erik and daughter in law Mary Jensen, daughter Lisa Jensen Roberts and son in law Keith Roberts, and daughter Donna and son in law Jeffrey Hyland, as well as grandchildren (Amy Jensen Cooper, Jaclyn Jensen, Will Jensen, Melanie Roberts Rivard, Mark Roberts, Bradley Roberts), four great grandchildren, a niece (Janet Sweetser Rumford), and nephews (David Sweetser, Mark Sweetser).
Gwen was predeceased by her parents, husband Alfred, brother Wendell E. Sweetser, and nephews Wendell Sweetser and Kenneth Sweetser.
A memorial service will be held for Gwen Sunday November 6, 2022, at 2pm at the First Baptist Church of Brentwood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gwen’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Brentwood, c/o Reverend James Barnes.
