Gem Hyacinth Anderson, 77, of Milford, NH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Born on October, 21, 1946 in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, she was the daughter of the late Euston Hope and Iris May (Francis) Newell.
Gem grew up in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica and graduated high school from Lititz All Age. Then she worked as a seamstress before she moved to the United States in 1966. She then started her career in healthcare and became a Nursing Assistant. Gem worked at Albert Einstein Hospital in Bronx, NY and Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, MA. She spent the rewarding years of her career caring for Veterans at the Bedford VA in Massachusetts as an occupational Therapy Assistant and later as a Domiciliary Assistant before her retirement in 2015. She loved spending time with her family, going to church, reading, singing, celebrating Christmas, and watching her favorite tv shows with her late husband. She also enjoyed visiting Cape Cod and going for long scenic drives. Gem took the time to appreciate life and to see the beauty in people. She was a caring, kind, empathetic, and loving mother, grandmother, and sister who always put others before herself.
She is survived by her daughters Bernadette Chong and husband Peter, Rachel Anderson and husband Andrew Flynn; sisters Patricia Newell, Jennifer Rochester; brother Melverton Newell; grandchildren Rebecca Chong, Olivia Chong, Savannah Anderson-Flynn and Andre Flynn. She had many nephews and nieces. She was very close to her nephews Hugh and Dave Haynes, Robert Newell, and niece Marcia Haynes. She was predeceased by her husband Herbert Stanley Anderson, son Joshua Matthew Anderson, and 6 siblings. Rest in peace sweet angel.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Zis-Sweeney & St. Laurent Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley Street, Nashua, NH. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Main Street United Methodist Church, 154 Main Street, Nashua, NH, with a burial immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery, 101 Kinsley St, Nashua, NH.
