Elizabeth “Betty” Vertz, 74, of Nashua, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Friday, February 11, 2022 after battling a brief illness. Born in Cambridge, MA on May 14, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Claire V. O’Connor (English).
Betty grew up in Arlington, MA and was educated in the Arlington School System. She worked as a laboratory technician for 17 years at W.R. Grace in Cambridge, MA until her retirement in 2004. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, cooking, reading, and volunteering in the Church of Christ in Massachusetts and Texas while her husband Paul served as the Preacher. Betty loved relaxing at her favorite beach in Nahant, and always found comfort and peace while there.
She is survived by her loving husband Paul Vertz; son Matthew (Meredith) Finnie of Billerica, MA; step-children Julie (Ronnie) McQueen of Bryan, TX, Steven Vertz (Keith Skiner) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Sally (David) Miller of Snyder, TX; sister Mary (Stephen) Bates of Highlands Ranch, CO; brothers Patrick John (Ginny) O’Connor of Lynn, MA, Kevin (Diane) O’Connor of Hampstead, NH, William (Grace) O’Connor of Leander, TX; grandchildren Andrew Finnie, Anna Finnie, Ronica (David) Case Harvey (Gloria) McQueen, Kristen (Dean) Willis, Audrey Miller, Daniel (Anna) Miller; great-grandchildren Jadyn Case, Carabelle Case, Kyrlie Case, Amelia Case, Sarala McQueen, Kian McQueen, Chloe Willis and Camden Willis; along with several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers Gerard and Daniel O’Connor, as well as her sister Patricia Cornelius Cronin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
