Luis is survived by his son Louis Otavo (Jennifer); son Ernest Otavo (Elka); and Luis' grandson Joshua Otavo; and many other loving family and friends.
Luis was preceded in death (2003) by his spouse Alcira Otavo.
Luis was a very kind and faithful man; a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. As a young man Luis served in the Colombian National Navy where he received specialized training in electronics. Luis was proud of his service and often shared stories of his time and missions in the military. After leaving Colombia and moving to the United States, Luis dedicated his career to working as an electrical engineer and eventually retired from Cordis, a Johnson & Johnson company based in Miami that manufactured pacemakers. Luis was also the owner of Luis Photo Studio in Homestead where he was able to pursue his passion for photography.
Luis was a devoted Catholic parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, where he ensured his sons received a Catholic upbringing and education and also of San Martin de Porres where he photographed and documented the miracle of the "Rosa Mistica" in the mid 2000s. Luis devoted much of his time to visiting and praying for the sick and weary.
Luis was a great conversationalist and enjoyed sharing ideas, stories and discussing current events. He was a big thinker and loved to learn and study across a variety of subjects. Luis was a joyful optimist with a great sense of humor and ease about him. He enjoyed listening to music and fishing; often recalling happy memories of fishing as a child in the "Rio Magdalena" in Colombia. Luis was also a dog lover and immensely loved and enjoyed all his dogs. He was an avid Colombian futbol fan and American football fan. He also enjoyed cooking and reading and discussing the word of the Lord. Luis will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones but we rejoice that he is home with his heavenly Father.
A visitation for Luis will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM . A funeral service will occur Monday, October 28, 2024 from 10:00 AM at Caballero Rivero Palms Woodlawn Funeral Home 27100 Old Dixie Hwy, Naranja, FL 33032.
