Bruce spent most of his life in Miami. He graduated from Miami Jackson High School in 1949.
Bruce met his bride, Dorothy Lee Hodges, on a blind date October 26, 1050. They married August 18th, 1951 and honeymooned in Havana Cuba. They were inseparable for over 70 years.
As a very young man he went to work at National Airlines as a Ticket Agent. He stayed with that company for decades and worked his way up to being a Flight Dispatcher. National merged with Pan Am and transferred him to JFK in New York. He and Dot spent the last four years of his career with Pan Am in New York. He kept a calendar on the back of his bedroom door and marked off each day until he could take early retirement and get back home to his oasis in the sun!
Bruce took full advantage of the travel benefits his career offered. He and his family traveled
All over the world. Europe, Asia, Pacific Islands, Alaska, all the National Parks, just to name a few. At that time, air travel was very glamorous and quite a luxurious experience.
At home in Palmetto Bay, Bruce enjoyed fishing, snorkeling off of Elliot Key and sailing in Biscayne Bay. They would split their time between Palmetto Bay and their home in Key Largo.
Bruce Barton is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee Hodges, 2 daughters, Susan Barton Weida and Karen Gail Barton, Granddaughter, Brittany LindaLee Barton and Grandson, Reid Barton Golden.
